Hertfordshire libraries’ new mascot Tala

Hertfordshire, UK’s library system probably didn’t expect to land itself in international news this week after releasing a new children’s story time mascot, a little blue alien named Tala. But a collection of gender critical internet obsessives lost their minds that the new mascot has they/them pronouns.

The story prompted professional transphobe Maya Forstater to absolutely lose her mind on Twitter, where she’s tweeted repeatedly over the last 24 hours demanding to know what genitals the children’s cartoon has, in the name of *checks notes* children’s safeguarding.

It’s become all to common for me to see a new gender critical controversy that makes me feel as if the world has lost its mind, but this one has especially broken my poor, internet-poisoned brain.

Maya claims that teaching children that non-binary aliens exist may one day lead them to realize that trans people exist and aren’t the world’s sole source of evil. I exaggerate slightly, but this is the “safeguarding concern” that Forstater has about this blue children’s cartoon mascot.

Yesterday she tweeted that the little blue alien children’s cartoon mascot must have a way to reproduce and that by not disclosing the way the little blue alien children’s cartoon reproduces, it makes parents feel “unsafe” by lying and disparaging parents.
