Goodbye Medium
This will be the last piece I write for Medium
Earlier this month I was informed by the manager of my writing program here at Medium that my contract with the site would not be renewed. They said they wanted writers who produced more practical stuff for their readers, after promising me at the start that I could write about anything I wanted to for them.
Several of my trans-related pieces have gotten good readership numbers, as was my recent piece on “Stroads”. I enjoyed writing for Medium, though they had first cut out the publications that would co-run some of my better pieces, and then instructed me not to use the editor they had provided me, then later laying off most of the program’s editor’s citing the fact that people weren’t using the editors anymore.
I’m disappointed to see this relationship end, but not surprised. Medium has lurched from one content scheme to the next since its founding and this is more of the same.
I’m about to start a new column with an LGBTQ publication that I can’t quite give more details on as of yet. In the meantime, if you’ve enjoyed my random thoughts on Overwatch, city planning, my fledgling interview series, and yes, the trans rights movement, much of that work will now shift over to my Patreon.
